4:30 PM Leveraging on Autonomous Vehicles to Ease Indonesia’s Traffic Woes – Is it feasible and cost-effective?
Mega cities such as Jakarta are already suffering from overwhelming congestion. The city’s transportation infrastructure development has not kept up with the rise in population, vehicle ownership and travel patterns. Traffic demand management initiatives, such as the 3-in-1 and odd-even vehicle licence plate, have not sufficiently reduced congestion due to enforcement challenges. This session will look at how Jakarta’s urban mobility system has evolved over the years, understand the various underlying forces influencing driving patterns, and examine whether autonomous vehicles is a feasible and cost-effective solution in the near future.
